Day two of the work week begins. So far, so good.

Yesterday, more or less on a whim, I decided to wear a tie. No big deal for me; I started wearing ties regularly for school in the Third Grade. Dress code and whatnot. Anyway, as I said: No big deal. I got to work and people came up to me with such genius-level statements as “You’re wearing a tie today.”

*blink blink*

No shit? Really? A tie, you say? Well, damn and a half… I’m glad you told me, otherwise I would have gone around all day without knowing that. I mean, it’s not like I dressed myself or anything this morning.
Okay, I didn’t actually say that to anyone… but I thought it loudly a few times.

*sigh* Humans.

Aside from that – and the Monkey 1 revelation – the work day was rather good. It moved quickly and I got a good number of things done.
After work, I went to Jordan Commons to see a preview of The Astronaut Farmer, starring Billy Bob Thornton and Virginia Madsen.

It was good. In a few ways, it reminded me of The Pursuit of Happyness. Both movies dealt with the power of hope and dreams… and what it means to hold onto them, despite the odds or what others might think, say or believe about them. I recommend this seeing this movie when it opens in wide release.

Stray Toasters

  • When typing the date for this entry, I almost typed “Jamuary.” There’s a radio station in Greensboro, WJMH FM (102 Jamz), that refers to January as “Jamuary.” It made me chuckle.

  • The Dodge Tomahawk – That’s right kids, strap Viper V-10 engine between your legs and go!
  • Omega Flight. This is definitely not your father’s Alpha Flight.
  • “…was blind, but now I see.”
  • And, while I’m thinking about it: I snuck a peek at the last chapter of Star Trek: Unity this weekend. I now know what happened to The Emissary Ben Sisko following the DS9 series finale. I’m good with that.

  • Articles abound about the game Second Life and how people and businesses are populating the game with virtual avatars. Then, I saw this article about Second Life getting it’s first… virtual embassy. Sweden has decided to create an online embassy in the game. Is this a sign that we are moving more towards the concept of cyberspace and the matrix that we’ve read about in books by William Gibson and Neil Stephenson? How soon before we trade in our meat for eternal virtual avatars? And, in that case, will we finally learn the answer to that one persistent question: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Namaste.
