Brace yourselves. This is going to shock you: It snowed again today. Actually, it snowed a little this morning. It stopped for a while. It snowed again this evening. This is a picture, taken at work, around 4:30 pm MDT.

While everyone else seems obsessed with the “What (fill-in-the-blank) Are You” surveys/tests, I’ve been somewhat… distracted by the game Reflections. It is addictive. Very addictive.

::: remembers to write in journal :::

The management team had a dinner/planning meeting tonight. One of the things that came out of the meeting: The supervisors were given journals and asked to record some of the highlights of this holiday season. Sidenote: This is something of an oxymoron: “highlights” and “working for the Postal Service at Christmas.” I know that sounds incredibly cynical, but take it from this angle:

  • USPS employees have a reputation for having high on-the-job/job-related stress. Most of this is unwarranted. It’s just the few who go to extremes who cause the public to look with jaded eyes when someone says “I work for the Postal Service.”
  • December is the USPS’ busiest time of year. Nuff said.
  • Many crews have their work hours extended during this time.
  • Tempers and feelings can be stretched a little thin. “So much to go, so little time…”

That said, I’m sure that there will be a number of noteworthy things this year; the most notable is that this will be the BUSIEST holiday season that the Salt Lake REC has seen. Last year we had either 4, 5, or 6 (I can’t remember) cities whose mail we processed; this year, we have 25. The most interesting thing about the whole “highlight journal” idea is: The supervisors have been given sanction to keep journals. I simply find it curiously odd and ironically funny; those who know me well know why I feel this way. I wish them well in this endeavor; it will be interesting to see what people have to say. As Lewis Carroll wrote: “‘Curiouser and curiouser,’ said little Alice.”

That’s it. Really. Fait accompli. No more. Finis. Coda. The end. Tune in tomorrow (same LJ channel, same LJ time) for more random or maybe even not-so-random musings.

Peace.

Like I said in this morning’s post: It snowed today, mostly this morning and a little tonight.

Usual routine: Work. Gym. Home.

Random Thoughts:

  • There’s something about listening to Jimmy Buffett, while working, that makes the time seem to pass faster. Maybe it has something to do with the (usually) light-hearted, good mood lyrics. That and/or the almost overwhelming desire to belt out a verse or two of “Margaritaville” or “Boat Drinks” on the workroom floor.
  • Sting’s song “Russians,” from the CD Dream of the Blue Turtles, seems to have a new relevance of sorts in light of recent events. You can see the lyrics here.
  • I am really enjoying the new Justice League cartoon. Not only is the animation good, but the stories aren’t just your typical “Hey!!! (Villain name) is (type of crime)! We must get them before they (plot device)!!!” And they are actually developing the characters and not just the archetypes. Who would have thought it possible?!? Actually, that’s something of a no-brainer; the creative team behind it are the same people behind the award-winning Batman: the Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. (Info on those series here)
  • I miss late-night runs to Steak and Shake with my friends back home.
  • I need to do more writing. Not journaling. Writing.
  • Gym GOOOD!!! ::: gesture :::
  • Gym, after two days of not going, BAAAD!!! ::: gesture :::
  • I cook a good steak.
  • The cats, when they aren’t being Hellraisers, are funny.

A new week beings in grey.
Snow like frozen tears.
As once before, so again.

Sunday was a fairly uneventful day.

  • I went driving for a bit after dropping Jess at work. I saw this sign along one of the roads. No explanations. Just this sign. I actually stopped the car and backed up to get it.
  • Met Scott and Angie, went to Macaroni Grill for lunch and then on to Borders. Thanks to m3lody, I have been drawing. The Borders excursion was made so that I could sit, look at magazines, and get some practice sketching done. Twas a successful trip.
  • Came home and sat on my bum for a few hours and then moved some of the living room furniture so that Jess can put up the Christmas tree.

Yup. Quiet day.

The Ravens and Dolphins won; the Panthers lost (gee, imagine that).

AND…. BEST OF ALL…. It didn’t snow today!!! Sure, it did (a little) last night and they are calling for snow tomorrow, but there was NONE today! Booyah!

Peace.

Okay, I just saw this in ‘s Journal and had to pass it along:

Then Rena and Em and I watched SNL with Derek Jeter, who really does look like a cross between The Rock and a Muppet

Nothing against Mr. Jeter, but he’s a member of the American League baseball team from New Amsterdam York. THAT means that as an Orioles fan, I am entitled to poke fun of him and his teammates (and that damned kid that cost the O’s a home run in the ALCS a few years ago).

Hmm. I like The Rock; I wonder WHICH Muppet she was thinking of…?

Peace.

Today, I did very little.
And it was good.

::: genuflect :::

The highlights, as they were, included trips to the comic shop, CompUSAirways, and Barnes & Noble and going bowling. Only Larry and I bowled tonight – Jess wasn’t feeling well and Scott and Angie punked out on us. Oh, well. We had a good time.

Tomorrow: FOOTBALL (and cleaning the apartment)!!!

Peace.

December 1.

So soon.
Without warning.
Where does the time go?

“From the point of entry, until the candle is burned…”

And at the end of the day, when the wick of the last candle is extinguished and the quiet darkness lulls them into a false sense of peace and security… then, and only then, shall the machinations of my cunning and most nefarious scheme be felt.

Okay, I don’t know where that came from – or why – but it was one of those things that once it had started had to be borne out.

Not much has happened since this morning: We went to work, we left a little early, we came home. On a positive note, it only snowed through the morning and early afternoon. After that, the sun put in a cameo appearance. On the way home, he sky seemed to be clearing up, so we may actually see some blue sky and sun this weekend.

Peace.
