Not much…
everyday glory June 27th, 2001Pretty quiet day:
… got my frozen mocha;
… went to the inlaws’ and semi-fixed the camera/computer connection – I’ll fix it Thursday;
… went to work – and nothing bad happened!!!
… came home.
Amazingly enough, the supervisors’ was even posted today. This is nothing short of a miracle; we usually have to wait for Thursday (and sometimes Friday) for it. Under normal circumstances, this wouldn’t be an issue. But I work for the USPS, so “normal” goes right out the window. Anyway, the USPS workweek starts on Saturday, so you can see how it can be a little annoying to have to wait until the last minute to see if your schedule will change… or if you’re even ON the schedule. Maybe I’ll even relate the story of what happened to my schedule TWICE in January someday. But the schedule was up and – much to my pleasant surprise – I’m working on July 4th. Before everyone gets on the “Why would you want to work on the 4th” bandwagon, let me explain why I consider this a good thing.
- Base pay for working AND holiday pay on top of that.
Holidays are CAKE! Next to no mail. I should be out of there early!
I’m scheduled off on the 5th and 6th.
My parents and uncle come to town on the 7th… and I will hopefully get the weekend off – FOUR-DAY WEEKEND!!!
I live in Utah, where “Pioneer Day,” on 24 July, gets MUCH more fanfare than the 4th – more about that one in a bit.
Jess has to work, too… closing. But if volumes are low, she’ll be off early, too.
And that’s why I don’t mind.
And about “Pioneer Day:” it’s the celebration of the day that Brigham Young and his caravan first entered the Salt Lake Valley and he declared “This is the place.” As someone who grew up in one of the original thirteen colonies, I found… umm, FIND… it a bit odd. I understand that it was the end of a long and arduous journey. I appreciate what it took for the pioneers to make the trek. I even admire their spirit and dedication to finding a place where they would not have to live in persecution. What I find “odd” is a state holiday that gets more attention than a national one; Jess, who is from here but was also in the Army, finds it a bit odd, too. *shrug*
That’s about it for now.
Peace.
