I… I… I didn’t post last night.

There.
I said it.
I feel better now.
And with that said, get ready for a long post.

Thursday:

  • Work wasn’t too bad: I spent about half of the day processing flats, again. (Flats GOOOD!) Translation: I got to read more of my book on Adobe’s GoLive®.
  • I listened to NPR again; I believe that I will make it a regular part of my workday. A couple of news segments that caught my attention were:
    • Fuel-cell Powered Vehicles: Following Wednesday’s little tirade about cars, gas and fuel economy, I found it amusing that this bit of news was on. It basically explained that manufacturers are looking into creating vehicles that are powered by hydrogen fuel cells. They also mentioned that there is something of a catch-22 situation involved in producing these types of vehicles: Manufacturers are hesitant to build cars for which there is not a readily-available fuel source; Fuel providers are reluctant to build new networks and pipelines for refilling/recharging when there are no/not many vehicles on the market. You can find more information about this here¹.
    • Judge Sentences Man to 10 Months Without TV: It’s not often that hearing something on the radio will make someone do a double-take, but this news item did. A New York judge sentenced Edward Bello, a man with a 30-year history of petty crimes, to ten (10) months without television. :::boggle::: I would love to know exactly WHAT, besides the wind, went through this judge’s mind when he came up with this?!? This ruling was handed down at the Bello’s sentencing for credit card theft – $27,000 worth of it, in fact. If you are interested in reading/hearing this for yourself, click here (NPR), here (Ananova.com), here (National Post Online) and/or here (BayArea.com)². A short while later, the subversive in me chimed in with a possible loophole: If Bello is allowed to retain Internet access, has a broadband connection, and a TV tuner card, would he be in violation of his sentencing if he downloaded content to his computer? By the letter of the law, he would not be watching television, he would be using his computer. It might be a very grey area, but I think that it would be arguable. Did I mention: $27,000 in credit card theft and ten months without TV?!?!? Only in America.

Sometime Thursday night, it started to snow.

Quotes of the Day:

  • The first quote came from an episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun, a show that I didn’t fully appreciate when it originally aired, but have grown quite fond of in recent weeks. There is (almost) nothing that compares to well-written satire… of course, I didn’t think this when I took “Satire” as a tenth-grade English class, but I attribute that to youthful bliss/ignorance.

Dick Solomon: Apparently, there’s more to being human than just two arms, two legs and the occasional orifice.

  • The second quote comes from a conversation that I had with :

[23:33] dnister: So tomorrow. go start a brawl.
[23:33] dnister: hell, start five or six.
[23:33] dnister: get the whole mail room going.
[23:33] ShadoRunr: I took tomorrow off.
[23:33] dnister: and bring your own music.
[23:33] dnister: well you see, that’s even better.
[23:33] ShadoRunr: I do that anyway.
[23:34] dnister: Cause you’re not scheduled to appear at the Post Office.
[23:34] dnister: so you have the element of surprise.
[23:34] dnister: Much like Stone Cold Steve Austin did tonight
[23:34] dnister: when he rushed in to the ring and beat the crap out of the NWO
[23:34] dnister: who were picking apart the Rock
    [23:34] dnister: 3 on 1.
    [23:34] dnister: so Rob
[23:34] dnister: can take a chair
[23:35] dnister: rush into the post office
    [23:35] dnister: and clobber people
    [23:35] dnister: and “clean house”
    [23:35] dnister: I can hear it now…
[23:35] dnister: the lines chanting, “Robby! Robby! Robby! Robby!”
[23:35] dnister: At the announce table…
[23:35] dnister: “And now Rob has his manager in a sharpshooter…”
[23:35] dnister: “Rob’s Manager is tapping out!”
[23:35] dnister: “But Rob isn’t letting go!”
[23:36] dnister: “And now, Rob’s going to do the most electrifying move in Post office brawling entertainment…”
[23:36] dnister: “The ‘Additional Postage’ Elbow”!

Hmm. Maybe that judge was on to something after all…

Friday:

  • Slept in… and woke up to find that Jess stayed up after getting in from work, having not been able to sleep.
  • Observed the hygiene rituals.
  • Jess and I went to Mallday… for the first time in God only knows how long! Julia joined us and the other Mallday kids. Today, we went to Sweet Tomatoes; it was my first time there. It was quite a bit better than I expected, although I was shocked (pleasantly) by the amount and size of the chicken in their chicken noodle soup.
  • Jess, Julia and I went to B&N for a while, ostensibly to hang out, talk, draw and have warm beverages. We did. And, as an added bonus, I saw this…. mullet/skullet-thing! This is the second time that I have seen this guy, I was lucky enough to have the camera at hand, this time.
  • We went to Circuit City and….
  • Jess and I came home. We surmised that it would be better to be home in case Morpheus paid her a visit… which he did around 21:00.

Pictures of the past few days can be found here.

And that’s all the news from Lake Saline, where the women are sleeping, the men have bad haircuts and the children are above-average snowball fighters. Goodnight, everybody. Thanks for tuning in.

Peace.
