Friday
Finally.

The day started off normally. Work. Work. More work. With a side order of work, thrown in for good measure. We’ve been trying to resolve some inventory issues and other “bugs” keep popping up. This does not make for a good day. In fact, it makes for a rather long day. All that we could do was trudge through it. And so, we did.

Tonight, I decided against going to Borders and drawing. This decision was based largely on the fact that I was almost ravenously hungry by the time I left work. And the headache that I had developed over the last hour that I was at work didn’t help, either. And so, I came home. I toyed with the idea of going out after I had eaten, but I came down with a sudden case of laziness. Thus, I spent a quiet evening at home.

Stray Toasters

  • I talked with my dad again today; I spoke with him (briefly) yesterday when he relayed a call from my sister. On the whole, it was a social call, but he did have some information to relay, as well.
  • TechTV aired Silent Mobius as part of their “Anime Unleashed” programming. I tried to follow it. It was an interesting program. Something of which I was unaware: Kia Asamiya, currently the penciller on Marvel Comics’ Uncanny X-Men, created Silent Mobius. While watching the first few minutes of the show, I kept looking at the screen and thinking that the artwork looked familiar… but I couldn’t figure out “why.” When I was looking up background information on the show, I came across his name. The pieces fell into place at that point.
  • I saw a commercial a few nights ago that showed a young man entering a convenience store, buying a pack of gum and then leaving. The camera then showed a gumball rattling around a gumball machine. As the ad faded out, it said that viewers could find out why the gumball was so wound up [at a later date]. Apparently today was that day. The “same” commercial aired tonight. It was for Wrigley’s Extra® gum. This time, after the young man left the store, the camera refocused on the gumball – the self-avowed “angry gumball” – as it rattled around and broke free of the machine. Then it started singing. Yes, singing. Not just singing, but bouncing along the “lyrics” of the song. It was like a surreal flashback to the sing-along songs/films that they used to show in elementary school. With an angry gumball.
  • Van Morrison. Moondance. Need I say more?
  • Procol Harum. Whiter Shade of Pale. Ditto.
  • My friends Christine and Don have a son who’s approaching two-years-old. This was excerpted from tonight’s conversation with Don:

[21:20] DRD: I was so proud of Thomas tonight.
    [21:21] : ?
[21:21] DRD: he opened the DVD [player], took out my drum corps…put in his Wiggles DVD and closed the drawer.
    [21:21] : BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
    [21:21] : That’s perfect!
[21:21] DRD: he put it in upside down…but he’s so close!
    [21:21] DRD: he’s a techie!

  • I understand that people sometimes get distracted while driving, but is that grounds for crossing two lanes of traffic – directly in front of two other vehicles – to try and make it to the exit ramp that you forgot that you needed to take? The two non-turning vehicles were each travelling nearly 70 mph when the Jeep (Cherokee, I believe) cut across their paths. I should also note that there was another exit ramp less than a mile down the road where the Jeep driver could have made his course correction. Idiotstick.

Things One Doesn’t Expect to Hear in a Non-Hentai Anime
This came from one of tonight’s episodes of Silent Mobius. Like I said, I tried to follow it. Then this pair of lines came up and pretty much blew that plan out of the water. I don’t know the characters’ names yet, so I’ll just use generic ones.

Character 1: “Look! There’s a giant nest on Lebia’s apartment!”
Character 2: “She just has a big bush.”

Note: Lebia, according to this translation, was pronounced “labia.” Holy double entendres, Batman!

Question of the Day
I discovered a community called tonight. They look at your journal and rate it. Would you submit your journal for public review?

I’m a little torn on this one. I’d be interested to see how it fares, but then again… the whole concept of having it reviewed reminds me of 10th Grade, when we had to keep a journal for our English class. A journal that was graded. *shrug*

Namaste.
