Not only was it No Bad News Thursday, but my mother and one of my God-sisters came to town today.  We had lunch at Market Street Grill – yeah, I’m not a big fan of “seafood in a land-locked state,” but I will admit that Market Street does a good job with “fast food.”¹  After lunch, I took them up to Wasatch Drive, so they could get a look at the valley.  From there, we headed to Bad Ass Coffee (I needed to thin out the blood in my caffeinestream); Perry stopped by for a few and chatted.  Then, it was back to the hotel, so the family-units could rest for a bit – they had been in the air and on-the-go since FAR too early this morning.  Post-rest break, we met and the boys for dinner.  I was still a bit full from lunch, so I wound up taking a healthy-sized portion home in a box.  After plan-making and goodbyes, I went to ‘s and watched CSI and Without a Trace.  And then… home.
It’s been noted – by many people – that Mom and I are a lot alike in many ways.  That’s probably why we tend to butt heads with each other so often (and so well).  Today, however, was a very pleasant exception to that.  That’s definitely a good thing… and we had a good time together.  I also had a chance to sit and talk with Cynthia, my God-sister, for the first time in a long while.  That was nice, too.

Tomorrow, Mom vs. Clitorati.  Place your bets now.

Stray Toasters

  • I’m a lucky guy.  I have a good family and good friends.
  • For : Apparently, there was a “Draw Batgirl” meme back in January. With that in mind: An LJ post… chock full o’ Batgirl.
  • “You got your Star Trek in my Simpsons!”
“You got your Simpsons on my Star Trek!”
Two great sounds that sound great together?  You make the call.  If nothing else, it’s amusing.
  • By way of boingboing.net: German sex-ed book for kids is oddly illustrated.  (NOTE: NSFW picture on this page)
  • it’s been a long time since I’ve been good

  • Forbidden Fruit: Inbreeding among polygamists along the Arizona-Utah border is producing a class of severely retarded and deformed children  (This really surprises people?!)
  • As if a fanny-pack wasn’t bad enough: Hipster Personal Trailer
  • For some as-yet-unexplained reason, I had a dream in which I was trying to throw – or learn to throw – javelins last night.
  • While reading this article on The Trials of Shazam #1, I read this line and it made me chuckle…
But while he’ll never be as cool as Black Adam (if only because “Black Adam” is one of the best names ever), the time couldn’t be more ripe to take yet another long, hard look at Captain Marvel.
…becuase I’m now wondering if I should start referring to Sib3 as “Black Adam” from now on or if that comment would just go to his head.
  • : Toon Zone has an interview with Alan Burnett about the upcoming season – and changes – to The Batman (on Kids WB)…while ComingSoon.net has an interview with Christopher Nolan with a few words about his thoughts for The Dark Knight.
  • Michael Bay’s upcoming Transformers movie (yes, a live-action movie about those Transformers) has exploding Furbys.  How can you go wrong with exploding Furbys?  I mean… that has to be one of the greatest concepts in moviemaking since… since… Snakes on a Plane!
  • I read this ‘toon and had the thought: “Behold the power of digital image processing!!!”
  • I’m not sure if I’ve had multiple Star Trek references in one post before, but here goes: CBS Set to Beam Up.  It seems that someone CBS’ Paramount Domestic Television division has been learning the Gospel according to St. George of Lucas.  They are remastering the 79 episodes of the original Star Trek series… with all-new special effects and music.  I’m not sure how I feel about this.
  • You know, nooooo one ever does expect the Spanish Inquisition.  You probably didn’t either… until I mentioned it.

Namaste.
